Seven Guidelines To Athletic Shoe Shopping
The increasing awareness of physical fitness has boosted the popularity of athletic shoes as more and more people are getting into sports and engaging into various physical activities. Still it is good to provide some useful hints that consumers can use whenever they go shopping for athletic shoes.
1. When you wear athletic shoes, you will certainly wear a pair of socks. So when you go shopping, bring that particular pair of socks with you. Trying on athletic shoes barefoot can throw you off the course, making you think that it is too big when in fact it is just the right fit especially with the socks on.
By trying on with the socks, you will be given an accurate feel on how the shoes will feel while you are wearing them. This will help prevent you from buying a pair of athletic shoes that are too small and end up being too tight when you wear it with socks.
2. Just because you are going to try them on doesn't mean you don't have to measure your feet. Measuring your feet will only serve as a guide but it will keep you from guessing your shoe size which can take awhile especially if you have no idea about it.
When measuring your feet, make sure that you measure both feet while standing. Keep in mind that the foot tends to spread out when you put pressure on it. Measuring it while standing up will give you an accurate measurement of the width.
3. The best time to shop for athletic shoes is after a workout or late afternoon. During this time your feet have swollen and are at their maximum size. Shopping at this time will keep you from buying shoes that are too small and will end up tightening around your feet at the end of the day, once your feet have swelled.
4. There should be enough space inside the toe box. Your toes should be able to move freely. If you can't do this, then the toe box is too tight and the shoes are probably too small for you. The distance between the longest toe and the edge of the toe box should be about half an inch.
5. Your heel should fit snuggly at the back of the shoe. If it is pushing on your heels then that pair is too small for you. If your heel slips out of the shoe easily, then it is too big for you. A snug fit at the back of the shoe is one of the tell tale signs of a perfect fit.
6. The type of shoes should fit the shape of your feet. If your feet have high arches, then you should get shoes that have supports on the insoles. If you have flat feet, you should wear a pair of athletic shoes that is designed for your foot structure. Wearing the wrong type of shoes can certainly result to foot and even joint problems.
7. You should feel comfortable the first time you put on those pair of athletic shoes. Most experts believe that there should be no break-in period for new shoes. Instead, it should feel comfortable immediately after you try it on.
If you don't feel comfortable wearing a particular pair, then go look for another one. Keep in mind that in order to be able to perform at your best, you should feel comfortable with what you are wearing.
