Five Types Of Footwear For Different Sports

When you think of sports, usually you just think that you need a pair of good rubber shoes and a pair of sweats. But over the past 20 years, sports has developed into something more; something that has specific needs per sport. And this can clearly be seen with the type of footwear that is available to all the different types of sports enthusiasts.

This, of course, can be something confusing for one who is trying to buy a good pair of shoes to play, for example, badminton for the first time but ends up buying a pair of basketball hi-tops. Before buying a pair of sneakers to suit your sport, think about the foot equipment that they use first. Here are some sports and the kind of shoes worn by their players.

• Soccer – Also known as football in Europe, this sport is probably the easiest to buy footwear for because the shoes are very easy to spot. The shoes worn in this sport are known as cleats and the shoes are unique in that they have rubber spikes protruding from the soles. This makes it easier for soccer players to run on the grass and to control the way they move on the field. If they were to wear ordinary sneakers, they would more than likely just slide around the field because the grass can be quite smooth. It's impossible to play soccer on a wet soccer field with just ordinary sneakers.

• Golf – Golf shoes are also unique because they have spikes. However, these spikes are actually metal spikes. The spikes allow a golfer to dig into the ground so that the player can position the body correctly on the fairway or the green. Positioning one's body correctly is essential when making that perfect swing that will send the golf ball sailing into the air or towards a hole on the green.

• Running – You have probably heard of cross-trainers and these are the sneakers that are worn by runners, whether it be cross-country or around the field in a professional sports stadium. Cross-trainers are usually very light which makes running easier. They are also thinner than usual walking sneakers and this allows the foot to maneuver on the ground quickly and easily. A clunky sneaker will most likely make it harder for an athlete to actually run.

• Badminton – Badminton shoes are also thin and very light because badminton is a quick sport. Badminton shoes are also soft but very sturdy. If you play badminton, you will usually notice you will run and jump a lot as you try to hit the shuttlecock. Badminton shoes will make it easier for you to navigate around your side of the net and you won't have to worry about hurting your feet either.

• Basketball shoes – This game is borderline extreme for the feet. There is a lot of running and jumping and even twisting of the body on the court as players try all sorts of techniques to reach their goal of making a basket. So the best kinds of shoes are those that protect the ankles and the soles at the same time. This is why most basketball shoes are hi-cut and have soft soles. Basketball shoes are also very trendy in the sense that they can be worn as street-walking shoes as well. Well known brands include Nike and Adidas.
